Mike Fournier CD
Mike Fournier is a former Canadian Army Intelligence Operator and one of the founding members of the modern Canadian Forces Intelligence Branch, assigned number 230. Mike served as a Peacekeeper and operated covertly behind the Iron Curtain, where silence spoke louder than words. He came out of a ten-year retirement to reenlist and participate in the Afghanistan War as an Electronic Warfare Intelligence Analyst.
Forget the tuxedos and shaken martinis. This is the real world of intelligence—colder, quieter, and far more human.
If you’re interested in military history, intelligence work, or real-world espionage stories, Mike Fournier’s background and experience make him the perfect person to tell you about the shadowy world of Intelligence.
His debut memoir, Intelligence Operator 230: In the Service of Canada, is available to purchase now.

An Intelligence Operator's Story
For years, I entertained friends and family with stories from my military career—recounting funny incidents, thrilling moments, and the occasional serious episode. After each story, someone would always say, "Those are great stories, you should write a book."
Encouraged by their words, I decided, four years ago, to do just that and began writing my memoir. In it, I map my journey from my time in the Navy, then as an Army Intelligence Operator—from Peacekeeping in Cyprus, to covert Cold War operations behind the Iron Curtain, to electronic warfare analysis during the Afghanistan War. These experiences shaped my outlook on life and showed me the meaning of resilience and adaptability.
With Intelligence Operator 230, I invite readers to an unfiltered view of the discipline, responsibility, and quiet professionalism of real intelligence work. Unlike many military memoirs that focus on combat or high-profile missions, Intelligence Operator 230 sheds light on the less visible side of the spy-vs-spy world—the daily realities, personal moments, and ethical dilemmas that rarely make headlines, offering insights from both the field and the analyst's desk. There is no glamour or fiction here—just the truth of the job and how it is carried out.
