About Me

Biography
Mike Fournier is a former Canadian Army Intelligence Operator and one of the founding members of the modern Canadian Forces Intelligence Branch, assigned number 230. Mike served as a Peacekeeper and operated covertly behind the Iron Curtain. He came out of a ten-year retirement to reenlist and participate in the Afghanistan War as an Electronic Warfare Intelligence Analyst.
He was born on Sherwood Street in Ottawa’s LeBreton Flats. The Canadian War Museum’s west wall now stands where his house once did. He served twenty-five years from 1972 to 1997. After retiring, he settled in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he worked as a corporate security consultant, ran a Combat Hapkido school, and taught future police and correctional officers at Success College. He was inducted into the 2005 World Head of Family Sokeship Council Hall of Fame.
In 2007, he returned to military service with 2 Electronic Warfare Squadron in Kingston, Ontario, where he commanded ASIC’s EW Intelligence Analysis Section, Roto 6, Task Force 3-08.
After retiring again in 2013, he reopened his Combat Hapkido school, which continued to grow. As his school prospered, he became Canada’s senior Combat Hapkido master, holding the rank of 6th Dan. In 2018, he was inducted into two halls of fame: the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honours for Outstanding Dedication in the Martial Arts, and the International Combat Hapkido Federation Hall of Fame as International Master of the Year.
He retired from teaching in 2021, passing the school on to his senior black belt.

My writing approach
My work is shaped by a lifetime in places where clarity and precision mattered more than flourish. I write with a direct, disciplined style that reflects the world I came from: measured language, grounded detail, and a focus on the human realities behind events.
Rather than dramatize, I let the story speak for itself. My narratives draw on lived experience, historical context, and quiet moments that reveal character more than any action scene. Whether writing about intelligence work, war, or family, I aim for honesty, restraint, and accuracy — the kind that lingers after the page is turned.
